GAHA Youth of the Year Award 2020 winner Hannah Nichols
Meet Hannah:
Hannah Nicholson is daughter to parents, Drs. Frances and William Nicholson of Milton, Georgia. She has been involved with Arabian horses her whole life and a member of AHA and GAHA since 2011. This year marks her final year as a youth exhibitor.
Hannah started riding at local hunter/jumper shows in the walk/trot and crossrails divisions at a young age. Soon, she began showing at Arabian shows in the 13 and under Hunter Pleasure classes. Over the years, Hannah has become a versatile equestrian, riding and/or competing in many different disciplines including: hunter/jumpers, sport horse undersaddle and in-hand, equitation, dressage, western dressage, halter, western pleasure, ladies sidesaddle, hunter pleasure, mounted native costume, and saddle seat.
Over the past five years, Hannah has garnered a Reserve National Championship and 56 National Top Tens from Youth, Mid Summer, and Sport Horse Nationals. These awards were all won with her own five amazing horses: Muscats Nitewind++, Lakota PE+//, Redd Hott Express, Mr Sanddman+, and Thee Blue Cypres LA++. She has achieved the AHA Master Horseman Champion, Rider of Excellence Champion, and Handler of Honor Champion. For the past three years, Hannah has also been the LSI Markel Insurance High Point Youth Winner for GAHA.
Hannah first volunteered with GAHA in 2017 when she helped out at the GAHA Fall Sport Horse Show at Foxberry Farm. In January of 2020, Hannah co-hosted the GAHA Youth Ponies, Painting, and Pizza event with her mother to give youth an opportunity to meet other Arabian horse enthusiasts. This event was also designed to give parents networking resources, including information about local barns and trainers and both AHA and GAHA events. Hannah created the flyer for the event, set up this discipline displays with her riding habits, helped trailer her pony to the Art Barn, assisted people with the art project, and cleaned up after the social gathering. After the pandemic hit, Hannah put together the GAHA Model Horse Contest and “Thank You” Project to allow people to participate in activities from the comfort of their own home. For these events this year, Hannah also filled out the AHA Club Excellence Worksheets for all three.
